How To Replace Trailer Wheel Bearings

Replacing your trailer wheel bearings is an essential aspect of maintaining your trailer's performance and ensuring a smooth ride. Using a lug wrench, remove the lug nuts and take off the tire from the wheel hub.

Step 3:Dissasemble The Wheel Hub

Next, remove the dust cap, cotter pin, castle nut, and washer from the wheel hub. If applicable, remove the brake caliper and rotor. You should now be able to remove the wheel hub from the spindle.
 

Step 4:Remove The Old Bearings

To remove the old bearings, use a seal puller or a flathead screwdriver to pry out the seal from the hub. Then, remove the outer bearing from the hub. Flip the hub over, and remove the inner bearing in the same way.

Step 5: Install The New Bearings

To install the new bearing, grease the cavities in the hub race and bearing. Place the bearing in the race and install the grease seal. Repeat the process for the other bearing.

Step 6:Reattach The Wheel Hub

Carefully place the wheel hub back on the spindle, ensuring the bearings are seated properly. Reattach the washer and castle nut, and torque the nut to the manufacturer's specifications.
 

Step 7:Reinstall The Wheel

Replace the dust cap and secure it with a new cotter pin. Reinstall the wheel, and torque the lug nuts to the manufacturer's specifications.
