The Components Of Trailer Brake Pads

Trailer brake pads also need to have high strength, heat resistance and stable friction characteristics. However, compared with trucks (tractor heads), they may pay more attention to cost, environmental adaptability and braking coordination with the main vehicle. The main components include:

1. Reinforcing fiber
  • Steel fiber: The mainstream choice, providing basic strength, thermal conductivity and wear resistance.
  • Mineral fibers (such as basalt and silicate) : Reduce costs and regulate the coefficient of friction.
  • Composite fibers: A small amount of aramid or glass fibers are used to improve toughness.
2. Adhesive
  • Phenolic resin: Commonly used matrix, but in trailer brake pads, modified resin may be adopted to improve low-temperature adhesion (suitable for intermittent use).
  • Rubber particles: Used for buffering vibrations and reducing noise.
3. Friction regulator
  • Metal particles: cast iron powder, copper powder (enhancing thermal conductivity and stability), but environmental regulations may limit the copper content.
  • Wear-resistant fillers: alumina, barite (barium sulfate) - Barite can not only increase friction but also reduce noise, and is widely used in trailer brake pads.
  • Lubricating components: Graphite, coke, to prevent damage to the trailer brake drum during high-temperature wear (usually made of cast iron).
  • Ceramic materials: Some high-end formulas add ceramic fibers to enhance high-temperature durability.
4. Other additives
  • Noise reduction materials: mica, rubber particles, etc., to reduce braking whistling.
  • Anti-rust coating: The back plate is often treated for rust prevention to adapt to outdoor parking environments.
