Test Drive Checklist After Installing Trailer Accessories: 9 Details For Ensuring Safety

After installing any trailer accessories, complete the following test drive items one by one to thoroughly check for potential safety hazards and ensure driving safety:

 

1. Empty-load driving check: Check for abnormal noises
Carry out short-distance empty-load driving. Pay special attention to listening for any abnormal sounds in the suspension system and axle parts. If any abnormal noise is detected, stop the vehicle immediately for inspection. Check for loose installation of components or friction between parts to eliminate potential faults during driving.

 

2. Brake system test: Verify that braking performance meets standards
In both unloaded and fully loaded conditions, each step on the brake pedal should be repeated three times consecutively. Observe and confirm that the braking distance meets the standards, that the vehicle does not veer, that the feedback of the brake pedal is normal, and ensure that the braking system is properly installed and has reliable performance.

 

3. Component clearance inspection: Ensuring connection accuracy
Carefully inspect the connection areas of the traction device and suspension system for any gaps. Ensure that the gap is no more than 2mm. Excessive gaps can cause components to shake and wear during driving, affecting the stability of the trailer. If any exceed the standard, it is necessary to promptly adjust and tighten.

4. Safety sign inspection: Ensure that visual warnings are effective
Check the reflective markings on the trailer body, ensuring that they are intact without any damage, the characters are clear and legible, and the adhesion position is correct. This is to ensure that they can effectively serve as a warning device during night or bad weather driving, preventing traffic accidents.

 

5. Fluid leakage inspection: Preventing leakage risks
The key points to check are the brake fluid pipelines and oil circuits, as well as all the connection nodes. Observe whether there are any leaks or drips. Fluid leakage will directly affect the normal operation of the braking and power systems. If leakage is detected, the machine must be stopped immediately for maintenance to prevent safety accidents.

 

6. Tire condition inspection: Ensuring driving stability
Check whether the tire pressure of the trailer is within the standard range. Inspect for any damage, bulges, cracks or foreign objects embedded on the tire surface. Ensure that the wheel bolts are securely fastened. Avoid safety issues such as veering or tire blowouts during driving due to tire malfunctions.

 

7. Inspection of lighting system: Ensure clear signal transmission
Start the vehicle and check whether the turn signal, brake light, position light and reverse light of the trailer are functioning properly. Ensure that the lights are bright, the flashing frequency is uniform, there is no looseness at the connection points, and the signal transmission during driving is accurate to avoid rear-end collisions and scratches.

 

8. Traction connection inspection: Ensure a secure connection
Recheck the connection of the towing hook, towing rope (or towing rod), confirm that the locking device is in place and not loose, the towing part is not deformed or cracked, and ensure that the connection is firm during the towing process to prevent the risk of disengagement.

 

9. Full-load endurance check: Verification of long-term reliability
After completing the no-load inspection, conduct a distance-driven full-load endurance test. Throughout the process, observe the operating conditions of all components. Reconfirm that there are no abnormalities in the braking, suspension, and traction systems. Ensure that the accessories are stable and reliable in actual usage scenarios.
