Basic definition
The trailer brake chamber, also known as the brake air chamber, is a component of the trailer brake system used to store and transfer compressed air to drive the brake operation. It is usually combined with air pump, air storage cylinder, brake valve and other components to form a pneumatic braking system, which realizes the braking and release of the trailer through the pressure change of the compressed air.
1. Structure and working principle
Structure composition:
Housing: usually cast iron or aluminum alloy, resistant to high pressure and corrosion.
Diaphragm: Rubber material, pressure expansion push rod.
Push rod: The force generated by air pressure is transferred to the brake mechanism.
Reset spring: After the brake is released, the push rod is returned to position.
Air inlet: Connect the brake air path, receive the air pressure signal.
How it works:
When the driver presses down on the brake pedal, compressed air enters the brake chamber and pushes the diaphragm and push rod, which in turn activates the brakes (such as drum or disc braking). After the pressure is released, the reset spring returns the push rod to its position.
2. Main types
Standard brake chamber:
For conventional braking needs, the push rod stroke is short (e.g. 20-30mm).
Long travel brake chamber:
The push rod travel is larger (such as more than 40mm), suitable for heavy vehicles requiring greater braking force.
Spring brake chamber (compound) :
Integrated parking brake function for emergency braking or parking braking via spring force (manual release required).
