I. Definition of Flatbed Semi-trailer
A flatbed semi-trailer is an open semi-trailer without a body or roof. Its body is of a flatbed structure and usually comes with detachable side panels or brackets. It is connected to the tractor (the front) through a towing pin and relies on the tractor to provide power.
2. Main Structure and Components
Frame
It is welded with high-strength steel, has strong load-bearing capacity, and is usually of longitudinal beam + transverse beam structure.
The surface is paved with anti-slip steel plates or wood boards, and some models are designed with fastening points (such as container locks).
Suspension system
Common forms: leaf spring suspension, air suspension (suitable for transporting precision equipment).
Number of axles: single axle, double axle or multiple axles (depending on the load requirement, for example, the load capacity of three axles can reach over 40 tons).
Outriggers (supporting devices)
It is used to support the front end of the semi-trailer when disengaging from the tractor, and is usually operated manually or hydraulically.
Balustrade/baffle
Detachable side and rear balustrades prevent goods from sliding off (some models are designed with low flatbeds or no balustrades).
Tires and axles
The number of tires is configured according to the number of axles. Heavy-duty models use double tires. Most axles have drum or disc brakes.
Additional function
Optional hydraulic gooseneck, ladder, telescopic plate, etc. can be installed to facilitate the loading and unloading of heavy goods.
3. Classification and Application
Ordinary flatbed semi-trailer
Standard flat plate, with a side panel height of approximately 60cm, suitable for general cargo transportation.
Low flatbed semi-trailer
The platform height is extremely low (usually < 1 meter), making it suitable for transporting large equipment that is extremely tall and non-detachable (such as excavators and transformers).
Container flatbed semi-trailer
Equipped with container locks, specifically designed for sea container transportation.
Special flatbed semi-trailer
Such as modular hydraulic plates, the loading platform area can be expanded or the height can be adjusted.
