Structure
It is usually a circular or butterfly-shaped film structure, with the edge fixed between the air chamber shell and the cover plate.
The central part is connected to the push rod or piston. Under pressure, it expands outward to push the push rod.
Materials
Rubber: Commonly used are nitrile rubber (NBR) or fluorine rubber (FKM), which are oil-resistant and heat-resistant (-40℃ to 120℃).
Reinforcing layer: Some diaphragms are added with a nylon or polyester fiber layer to enhance tear resistance and durability.
Type
Spring brake air chamber diaphragm: Used in composite air chambers, it has the functions of both service braking and parking braking.
Diaphragm type brake air chamber diaphragm: Simple structure, often used in light vehicles.
Piston brake chamber diaphragm: Used in heavy vehicles, it is resistant to high pressure and has a longer service life.
Installation location
It is located in the brake air chamber, between the air chamber shell and the cover plate, and is fastened and sealed by bolts.
Typical application vehicle models: pneumatic braking systems for trucks, buses, trailers, etc.
Common Faults and Causes
Cracking or aging
Reasons: Rubber aging, high-temperature oxidation, grease corrosion or frequent high-pressure impact.
Symptoms: Weak braking, air pressure leakage (a leakage sound can be heard).
Deformation or delamination
Reason: Material defect or long-term overloading operation.
Seal failure
Reason: Improper installation or edge wear.
Replacement and maintenance
Replacement steps:
Release the pressure in the air chamber and disassemble the shell of the air chamber.
Remove the old diaphragm and clean the inner part of the air chamber.
Install the new diaphragm and ensure that the edges are aligned without wrinkles.
Tighten the bolts and test the air tightness.
Maintenance suggestions:
Regularly check whether the pneumatic system is leaking.
Avoid contact with corrosive substances such as engine oil and diesel.
Replacement cycle: It is recommended to replace every 2 to 3 years or 100,000 kilometers (depending on the working conditions).
