Brake Shoes
It is usually composed of a metal back plate (steel) and friction materials (brake pads), with an arc-shaped shape that matches the inner surface of the brake drum. The friction materials are mostly asbestos or non-asbestos composite materials, which are heat-resistant and wear-resistant.

After the brake is released, pull the brake shoes back to their original position to avoid continuous contact with the brake drum.

Working Principle
When braking: The driver steps on the brake, and the hydraulic or mechanical force pushes the brake shoes outward through the slave pump. The friction material presses against the inner wall of the rotating brake drum, generating friction to slow down the trailer.
When releasing: The return spring pulls the brake shoes back, detaches them from the brake drum, and the friction stops.
Main Types
Hydraulic brake shoes: Driven by hydraulic slave pumps, they are commonly found in heavy-duty trailers.
Mechanical brake shoes (inertial braking) : Braking is triggered by the inertial force when the trailer decelerates (such as in a skid steer trailer braking system).
Electric brake shoes: Controlled by electromagnetic force, they are used in the braking system of electric trailers.
Key performance parameters
Coefficient of friction: It affects braking force and is usually 0.3 to 0.5.
Heat resistance: The friction material needs to withstand temperatures above 300°C.
Wear resistance: It determines the service life of brake shoes.
